MEDI-ASSISTANCE is a service implemented in May 2002 as a result of the joint efforts of AXA Belgium, AG Insurance and Winterthur. Since Winterthur was merged with the AXA Group on 18 January 2008, MEDI-ASSISTANCE now includes two companies: AXA Belgium and AG Insurance. The MEDI-ASSISTANCE service is linked to the hospitalisation insurance concluded with one of the two companies. MEDI-ASSISTANCE offers the insured a whole range of services helping him to organise his hospitalisation in full serenity : information, assistance, third party payment…
The third party payment allows the direct invoicing by the hospital to the insurer of all the costs relating to hospitalisation.
In practice the insured client has a MEDI-ASSISTANCE card, providing him access to these services, on which the telephone number is mentioned that has to be used in the event of hospitalisation.
There he will receive :
all useful information about his covers,
the confirmation of the payment of the hospitalisation by his insurer (one of the three companies),
the confirmation of the application of the third party payment system (direct payment of the invoices by the insurer to the hospital).
